View Full Version : how soon after a fire?
how soon after a controlled burn could morels be expected to come up? I've heard that morels come up heavy after a fire, but not what happens if the fire is at beginning-mid season. I know of an area in southern MI that was burned last week by dnr, is it too late in season to see more morels again, or will they be popping through the ashes yet this year?

As far as i learn from what i've read from books, they supposed to pop out next year after a burn.

I hunt quite often in a controlled burn area. Normally it is burned in late
April or early May and have found them literally sticking out of burnt logs. Each year after the burn it is usually great hunting however this year there was no burn and it was the best year ever.

Went to the big burn area north of Roscommon about 3rd week of May 2011...the fire was about a year ago. We went to 3-4 areas and found ZERO. Anybody found any there as yet???
