I must admit I haven't paid much attention to recent posts about trumpets because I've never run across anything that even resembled one.
Here are some pics of my find yesterday. Are these trumpets?

The mushroom is solid. Here are some cut in half: The caps are smooth and black.

Rex, if it is the same shroom I found, then they must be a darker form, or what I don't know, but they look just like mister-zee's shroom, and the only discription I can find close enough is this shroom, mine is dark and veined, not gilled just fullstemmmed and growing from a centralized cluster, will take a pic of it, and send you the same chip as I have in my camera with the other shots I showed you, would be cool if you post em for me,mike

Gentlemen, could very well be a species of omphalotus, but what I found yesterday has a white sporeprint, with globose shaped spores, I can not find a picture in any of my books of nidiformis, the shroom I have does not have any blue to it, maybe tinges of deep purple around the outside rim of the trumpets, but not gilled, but veined, the only description I can find that fits the shroom I have, in any remote fashion is Polyozellus, maybe what I have is an older species of it, or it is the nidiformis, mike
