Did was I was told and searched around for an old apple orchard. This area still had some live trees, some that were half dead and others in varying stages of health. There were many brambles and the grasses and weeds were quite long and does not look like they were tended to in 8-10 yrs or so. I looked hard and crawled around to see if some one else may have been here, but the only evidence I seen were deer prints. Did not find anything at all. My questions are many; am I too late? Is there remnants of spraying that affects the area? etc. This location is on the South end of Milwaukee County and there was a large flush of morels just North of here last week. Any insights or tips on where in this orchard I may have overlooked or other discussion would be appreciated. My wife and I found our first morels on the 12th and 15th of this month, we are hooked. Gary Thanks in advance

Gary, my best advice is keep looking, not every orchard, or dying elm, or healthy ash produces morels, you need to keep stumping and looking until you can determine if the spot looks right to ya, you will know when, without question you just start hauling azz there, mike

Miker is right.I hunt about a dozen or so old homestead orchards and only about half produce every year. Some produce every other year or so,some never have but I look anyways...Got to keep checking them...

If you didn't find any sign of morels then it's possible they haven't fruited yet. Keep looking!

I don't trust eating orchard morels.
