I think I have found the black trumpet or fragrant black trumpet according to my books. Would like your opinion. If they are, I have about 200 of them growing in the moss in the oaks. What is the best way to preserve or cook?

Is there anything else it could be? The one I picked didn't have much of an odor, but it was on the old side. I will pick a few more and see if they smell. Thanks.

They have no known lookalike, but the sporeprint is just a cautionary statement, always trust it and not a judgement call, go back and pick em all, does the (paper) bag now have a fragrance, old ones lose this trait, miker

I'm not gettng a spore print on the paper, but the undersides have turned an oarnge color. Kind of salmon color. Are these best dried if not used right away? Also found some yellow chants in the same area just starting. Thanks for all your help. Maybe one day we will cross paths.

The trumpet is one of the few chants that stand up to drying, but I probably would partially fry and then freeze now, after I learned the latter method. I think we will meet someday, miker
