Please say a prayer for Frank, for pain relief and fast healing. He had an accident this morning and he has some 2nd and 3rd degree burns, but God was with him. It could have been much worse than it is.

He probably won't be online for a bit as his hands are both bandaged (all but his thumbs). Will keep you updated as we know what is going on. We just got home from the hospital and he is resting now.

Uncle Frank, very sorry to hear what happened. I'll be saying some prayers for you. I think one has already been answered; you have Aunt Deb there to take care of you, and you have one of the best people to prayer for you on your side, your mom.

Take good care of him Aunt Deb, he's the only Uncle Frank I've got!!

Frank

The only uncle UP NORTH Dannismom. I think your others uncles may take exception to that statement. LOL And I will tell them too. You know me.

But thanks anyway Berta.

Hi everyone

Thanks for your concern and prayers everyone, but don't worry. It's not as bad as we first thought.

Fiqured I'd beter give a shout just to let you all know I'm okey.
I got some fingers free now, so that helps me tremendously. They did have me bandaged up so that my hands were just clubs. Boy does that cut down on activity. LOL

I'm feeling better today, with Vidacains help of course.
I'm thankful that it is not as bad as it could have been. This is livable and I thank God for that.

I think I may be on the David Letterman show in his "Stupid People Tricks" segment. LOL
I mean just how stupid is it, to sit on a milk crate by a fire and fall asleep for an hour and a half BEFORE tumbling into the fire anyway?

I think I'll save the fires for Saturday nights from now on AFTER I've had some sleep. I had been up for almost 24 hours. Like I said, Letterman... Here I come. LOL

What really burns me up (pardon the pun) is two things. 1. I was going to hunt all weekend with Debbie for Chants and Lobsters. And #2. is if I had to have this happen keeping me out of work, why did it have to be just before my U P trip? LOL

Boy! I'll gripe about anything, won't I?

I kind of wish Deb hadan't put it in the prayer forum, but I'll leave it. She may be needing your prayers more than I. It gave her quite scare.

Miker? You can now holler at me with a "You ever going to post that thing Frank?". I am now offically a slower typist than you. LOL

Rex? Sorry I left you hanging on the phone today. I'm sure you understand. Sorry buddy.

We go see the family doctor tomorrow and hopefully he will give us a better idea of what we are looking at, as far as therapy, (if neccessary) healing time, etc. Thank you all for the prayers, I know they have helped already.

Hey, Daddy Frank...

So sorry to hear about your accident, regardless of the circumstances that lead up to it. (Gotta admit...wasn't the brightest thing you've ever done!!) Jeff says to tell ya he's sending ya his safety strap from his tree stand, tie it around ya a few feet further back from the fire. Sounds like you need it more that he does. LOL!! Besides, he says you're gonna need your hands next spring when he takes ya out to Lightning Beech shrooming!!

Seriously, tho, we sure pray for a speedy recovery. I know firsthand how painful 2nd and 3rd degree burns are, and I cringed at the thought of your therapy. Been there, done that. Hope that your family doc has good news tomorrow.

(Deb, praying for you, as well...guys are such whiners when they're sick or injured!! LOL!! Love ya, girlfriend!)

Keep us posted, Frank...we worry ya know...

Love ya, guy,
Jeff and Tam

PS...guess I don't feel so bad now about falling asleep in my chair around the fire last spring... LOL!!!

Frank and Debbie,

Ken called me about 6:08 to tell me Frank'd had an accident. He normally leaves for work at 6:00....so he wanted me to see what had happened because he had to get on the road.

Sorry, but I hadn't checked the board since early Saturday morning. I certainly pray that the healing process is speedy.

Ken evidently didn't get to read all the posts, as he didn't say anything to me about Letterman.:grinteeth

Hang in there Debbie! He may need someone to light his cigarette or to even open the pack.

Ken and I both pray for a speedy recovery. God bless.

Frank! Just glad your ok! Poor Deb! I just wanna give her a hug! I can just imagine what she went through! Not, that your not going through anything...but I'm just glad your ok, and not worse! You, and yours are always in my prayers. And I will just add a more detailed prayer for you. Don't feel stupid, for enjoying a nice warm fire. I am guilty of the same, but only my shoes were the victim. We continue learning, until our very last days, so you are just more SMARTER! (just trying to throw in a more positive note). Please heal quickly! and know I am praying for you! Things have settled down here, and I get a little break, so I'll be waiting for any updates. God Speed, Friend!

We went to our family Doctor today, who has refered Frank to a specialist to see tomorrow. We hope then to have a better idea whether he needs a burn clinic or if his care can be handled locally, as in Traverse City. All I know is Frank won't allow the physical therapist that saw him today, to ever work on him again. Suffice it to say, it wan't a pleasant experience for Frank. Was much rougher than it needed to be, thats certain. He's sleeping now and thats for the best.
Thank you all for your concern (and of course the wise acre comments!)

Frank,

Bob and I fall asleep every time we sit down too, so we don't build any campfires. I wish you the best and hope you get well soon. I know you won't do a lot of complaining, no matter what Tammy says!

I suppose I'll have to keep an eye on you every time you get in your "hunting crouch" next spring so that you don't fall asleep and mash a few shrooms. lol

The best to you and Sis,

Ken

Ow, ow, ow...bless your heart, Frank. I know how bad the 'debrisment' can be...they forget that there are still live nerves there, even tho the skin looks nasty. Hopefully the rest of your therapy won't be as painful!!

I had 2nd & 3rd degree burns on my feet about 24 years ago, and the very thought of a burn still brings back the memory of the pain. (Long story...suffice it to say, you aren't the only one that inflicts pain on yourself...lived in a house in KY with no bathroom or hot water, was heating water to bathe and spilled it on myself.) Was in a quarantined room for a week in the hosp, then off work for nearly three months...hope you heal faster than I did!!!

Keep us posted, Deb, on his progress. Sure hope they gave him some good pain drugs!! Love you guys!

Frank
Aug 9, 2004, 8:33 pm
LOL Thanks Ken, I always knew I could count on you and Bob to watch out for me. All you guys are cracking me up here. Fortunatley laughing doesn't hurt me. Thanks friends.

Tammy it wasn't just the treatment that got to me. I expected that and to endure some pain with it so I was all steeled for that. It was the guy himself. Whadda Jerk! Won't go into it, but neither will I be going back to him. We know another therapist and if I have to Illl have her do it at home. But I'm sure I will get a better one when I explain my problem with this first guy. He wasn't the Dr. 1st choice incintentally, but was the only one available at the time.

Glad to hear you're in good spirits.

Those therapists have a knack for really doing the wrong thing.
I remember one incident in particular with a cute little "dumb-blonde" one, that "forgot to reset" the ultra-sound machine back down to "mild pain" before she directed full power to affected area of my heel. WOW! I levitated about a foot off the table.

Last time she came near me, I tell you!

Get better quick, we'll be praying for ya!

We didn't find out much yesterday, but am headed over to Traverse City today to a plastic surgeon who is more up to date on burns. We hope to find out just how serious and whether or not we will have to go downstate to a burn center or not. I suspect not. I'm hoping this guy up here is able to handle it for me and save all that travel.

We'll let you all know what we find out when we get back later today.

Somebody somewheres has got to give me some answers.

PS. If anyone gets seriously burned in this area, take my advice and travel to Petoskey or Traverse City or even Saginaw for treatment. The Otsego hospital is VERY lacking in their burn knowledge and care of.

My family Dr. was incensed that they didn't admit me that first day with 12% of my body burned and the shock reactions I experienced while in the ER.

Debbie overheard him on the phone with the hospital, ripping them a new "you know what". LOL

I have a cool Dr. If he doesn't know about something he is not afraid to admit it to you. He's not one to just muddle through to keep your money in his office. He'll find the right person for the job. Like I said, a good DR.

Well, I'm off for now. Catch you later.

Well finally some type of answer from the Dr. It doesn't look like we'll have to travel downstate everyday to a burn center. He thinks we will able to successfully treat it up here. (There are NO burn centers in northern MI. anywhere! This surprised us.

This Dr told Frank that most of his burns will mostly be healed in the 2-4 week range. The ones on his right hand are the questionable ones. The Doc says will know better in the next couple weeks if there will have to be a graft, but right now he thinks not!

There is daily phsyical therapy ahead though, the burns have to be cleaned and dressed everyday. He may also end up with hand therapy. But we do know that he will not have the same person working on him as hurt him the other day so badly. The Dr yesterday contacted the supervisor, and he is the one seeing Frank today. Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Things are going very well indeed. Went to the Dr today and he said no grafts! The burns are doing very well with the therapy alone. The pain level for him has gone down a good bit this past week.
Thank you again for keeping Frank in your prayers.

First time on this page. I was wondering what happened? I know the pain of small burns, but can only imagine several large ones! Hope you heal quickly. I assume you can not work. Not to pry, but do you have disability insurance?

Unfortunately no, we do not. But I am only missing about 3 or 4 weeks of work, so I think we can survive it with a little belt tightening.

Things are progressing well so far. Wounds are getting smaller and new skin if forming quite well and the pain is WAY down from what it was the first week. Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts.

Great news on the home front here.

I will be going back to work on a limited basis starting monday.

Thank you lord.
It feels sooo good! The wraps are finally off. Only some stick on patches on a few spots. My right hand continues to improve each day. I've not had to take a pain pill for the last 30 hours. Glad to be off them too.

Woo Hoo! I'm so happy to have freedom of my hands again, and to be able to get back to work to do my part.
