Roosevelt, I believe you have a small bitter bolete there, but don't worry, they are the first sign that old elvis is about to begin making appearances, mike

The bitter starts out with a sandy-tannish cap, the stipe begins with pitted reticulation, that soons changes colors to highlight the reticulation, the whitish pore surface is what gives me the first clue, it will begin to pinken in a little while, and the cap will become an off drab lilac-brownish color, mike

Thanks Rex, the other thing that tipped my thought, was its close proximity to rotted or rotting wood, mike

I agree with that doug T. As soon as we get a real rain, or at least shortly after, I would hit that spot again.

Best kings I found all year last year flushed twice in the same spot in the span of 3 weeks.

Good going Roosevelt, the book can be helpful, just wished it was printed with color photo's instead, but I do say that Smith and Theirs were mycologists that were ahead of their time in research and exploration, but the one who really impresses me is the man they reference quite a bit in the book, Peck, this was an extrordinairy man in the field of Mycology, mike
