View Full Version : My daughter
My daughter, Kate, is leaving this week to spend 4 months in the rain forests of Belize. She's doing a semester abroad studying the different eco-systems of the area. I'm asking for prayers for her physical and spiritual safety. There are lots of strange viruses, bacteria, critters and insects in the rain forest. Please pray that God will put a shield of protection around her, bless her with good health during her time there, and and give her a greater understanding and appreciation for the beauty of his creation.

gab, first let me say that sounds like an awesome experience. I'm a bit jealous!!
She is thought of and I'm sure she will be fine. Perhaps she will be able to appreciate the fungi while she's there.

I was in Belize for one day last Summer when my wife and I were on a cruise. We took a trip to into the rain forest and hiked for a while until we got to some caves. At that point we used inter tubes to float through the caves and down river to where we started. All of the people were very friendly. I wish I could have stayed longer. I hope she has a blast and is very safe.

gab, got here covered on my end,in most third world countries, you really don't need to worry about disease, pestilence or wild life, you have to worry about low lifes, that think every American is rich, and thus an easy target for instant wealth, mike

I have a friend who spent 6 weeks in Belize, (on the cheap), spent lots of time with locals, didn't do much "touristy" stuff, but said he loved every minute of it--wishes he could have stayed longer.
conditions were much better than he anticpated.
Will keep her safety in our prayers,

Gab, tell her to be sure and check out the orange tree farms. They produce the majority of juice for one of the leading brands. Bikerdude's friend is a good example. It really is a layed back country. I would love to have my Harley and time to kill there for a while. The price of gas was over $4 a gallon though so a bike makes good sense.
Randy, just saw your post. Thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on that if needed. She's been gone about 10 days and we just received the first e-mail from her. The trip down went without any hitches. She's got some screws and a plate in one of her ankles and she was worried about getting through security but no problems. The country sounds beautiful and it even sounds like she's getting used to living in the jungle. The bugs are terrible but, in her words, she's " trying to be mellow about the whole creepy crawling thing. I mean, I'm in a jungle. You're going to get dirty and smelly and covered with scrapes and bugs. You might as well get comfortable with it." She really sees the beauty and awesome nature of God's creation in all around her. Again, in her words, "God is so good." We really appreciate all the prayers for her health and safety. I told her about the board and if she saw any neat fungi she should make sure she takes some photos so I can post them. Thanks again to all of you who are lifting her in prayer.

God takes special care of all her precious daughters lol
May your daughter be under the protection of His holy angels at all times.
God bless.
Just a note of thanks for all of you who lifted my daughter in prayer. She returned home late Friday from 4 months in Central America. God wrapped his arms around her and kept her from any physical problems. No bad bugs. No injuries. No parasites, diseases, or illnesses. She spent a week travelling with two other students in Guatamala staying in places that weren't the best and God protected her through all of this. No violence directed against her, although at times it was necessary for her to confront people who were making unwanted advances. She had a wonderful time. She learned a lot about God's creation and more importantly about life. She had planned on going to grad school for biology or ecology but now feels she might do something like Teach for America for a year or two. She came back full of stories about the tremendous experiences she had. Thanks again all. God is so good.
Forgot to add that she did take some pics of rainforest fungi. Hope to put some of these on the site once she gets them downloaded on her computer. Haven't seen all her photos yet but it sure is a beautiful part of God's creation.
