How common is this?

I was out scouting more potential mushroom areas and I came across an old punky hen from last fall. It was growing about 6 inches from a dead black cherry tree. I was wondering if anyone else has found them around black cherry trees. From what I understand the majority found is around red oaks, but this one wasn't. Just curious if anyone else has found them around black cherries.

In another post someone said that it may have been an old berlkeys polypore. Do you think that could change things a bit with the situation? It was hard to get a really good ID on it because it was pretty punky. The petals did seem a little big though. Didn't grow out like the white pored chickens I've seen before either. I think I found cauliflowers before once too, but they were long gone before fall. Do the black stainers grow more commonly near black cherry? Thanks again. Also, I'm just eagerly learning and this is helpful.
