With that 8" of snow last Sunday night I put off planting, onions carrots and lettuce until today. Potatoes are in the ground already poking up, second time trying them. MMM good stuff.

This is the first year I'm starting from seed indoors with maters, peppers, broccoli and brussel sprouts. There looking good, maters are about 4", peppers about 2 to 3", the rest are about 6". I don't have a good southern exposure window so I'm thinking about making a tiny greenhouse out of a couple window panes I have.

I thought I read in another post peas will handle do well in these colder temps. Might even get them in the ground too.

I'm increasing the garden size by about 300 sq ft so I better get out there tilling.....

Paul we need rain here, actually a good thunderstorm. That snow is all we have had for about 10 days.

I have a question for the experts... What do you use to deter the four legged critters like rabbits. You can trap em and fence it but they always seem get in or something else does. I was told a long time ago to plant marrigolds, well I didn't have much luck they were eatin up, go figure... LOL.

Last year I planted lettuce, I didn't have much success in the past so I though I'd give it a try again but in a more shaded area. I planted a couple rows of onions around the lettuce. It worked great not one leaf touched all season. They stay away from my chives and anything around them also. Was I just lucky last year, I'm trying it again this year in a new spot.

Thanks, Steve
