Wexford Co. Finds
2 Attachment(s)
Over the weekend, I spent a few hours in Manistee National Forest in Wexford Co. I found 3 blacks and about 15 Verpas.
Here is a photo of one of the blacks and a photo of two verpas I found.
It appears that the verpa on the right has a smoother cap, so it is probably a Verpa conica. The one on the right in the verpa photo is a Verpa bohemica. Both mushrooms in the verpa photo had white stuff inside.
I had picked the verpas to show to a couple who I encountered in the woods that told me they were new to morel hunting. They told me they had found quite a few mushrooms, and when I found the verpas, I wanted to make sure they weren't picking verpas. It turns out most of what they had were verpas. After telling them the risks, the woman said that 'Mark' eats those so they kept them. She said she wouldn't eat the verpas. I looked through what they had and showed them which were the morels and which were the verpas. They had some nice blacks! The woman was also collecting ramps, which she said she was going to put on burgers later.

Re: Wexford Co. Finds
I'm bumping this thread from last year. It shows a black morel, as well as 2 species of Verpa.
