Re: morel preparedness- week 11

Just got my first pair of glasses after an eye exam. Have used reading glasses for years now,but thought it's time to get the real thing. Hopefully it will help with those elusive little buggers. But hey, that's why i have kids.

Now is the time to shop for hiking boots. Get them now and break them in before the season starts. Blisters from breaking in new footwear could really put a damper on your morel season.

Morel Season Preparedness- week 9

This weeks tip- get outside. We have a few days of decent weather, so take advantage and find a nature trail or walking path with some terrain and start getting your huntin' legs.

Morel Season Preparedness week 8

This weeks tip ( admittedly another lame one ) is get your vehicle checked. Having no ride on the wrong week could seriously damage your season. Next week as we enter March we will start the serious prep that can make or break your season, so stay tuned!

You read my mind of this weeks tips Jeff.

I was going to post for you if you wasn't able to cause of your puter problems.

My tip was get your mufflers checked. Every year we see and dodge mufflers on those dirt roads. A couple of those years were our own mufflers. LOL

Last year a complete brake breakdown, broke my bank acc't, as well as my season. Had to return home as my hunting money went into $700.00 repair job. Thankfully I was able to make our spring dinner tho. Just up for dinner and back home. End of season for me.

Ya just never know...

Re: Morel Season Preparedness week 8

I put $1100 in my wife's van last week in hopes that will be my "up north" vehicle this season. It is back in the shop again now with a broken strut (I hope that's all). I wrecked my Jeep Grand Cherokee last February right after our 30" snowstorm, so I have my wife's old minivan as my primary vehicle. It is on it's last legs, so I need my wife's van to be dependable or nothing further than about 30 miles out this year for me. On the good side. my computer problems are fixed and it was only a bad power cord. We have an old puter we are cannibalizing and it's cord was good.

Another $900 in my wife's van due to a broken spring. Springs, struts, a tie rod, and an alignment. Should be good to go now. Bring on the two track roads!

Morel Season Preparedness week 7

As we move into March it is time to pay attention to where the rain is falling and how much. If you remember back to week 18 we discussed looking for areas up to 50 miles out for possible hunting spots. Now we are going to match those up with areas that have received ample rainfall. Last years rainfall wasn't much of an issue as nearly all of the Great lakes states had above normal rainfall leading to the great season most of us had. The majority of seasons are a struggle to find the best areas, and it looks like Northern Michigan is going to have challenges this year with 5 consecutive months of below normal precipitation (Oct-Feb). Here are several good sites to monitor precipitation:
