Big yellows in Northwest Ohio
3 Attachment(s)
It's been an interesting year around here. With the cool temps thrown in with a few 80 degree days, the season is still early, but the season has pretty much skipped the small to medium sized grays and yellows and jumped to the big ones. Yesterday and today I found some 1/4 pounders. However, they are only coming up in light sand and mostly under foliage that holds the heat. It still seems really early. Very strange.

I think the shady areas are going to be a bit late this year. Nice pics 👍

I found some huge morels over by Grand rapids Scott, sent the pics to Jon, can't upload from my phone to this page, found 160 in one patch anywhere from 4-13" tall all yellows, then walked 40 yards and found 6 fresh 3" Grey's???! Seems to be in the black dirt here. Found some in Sandy lighter soil that were burned up.

Re: Big yellows in Northwest Ohio
Everything is unique unto itself around be. My uncle lives along the elevated railroad tracks. Henry Ford hauled in Sand to make the tracks high enough to that he could cross other lines without have to pay them to use their lines. The result is a huge ridge of sand. There are dead elms along the banks. The bottom of the bank is too early - only one so far - while at the top I am finding giants.

In another woods there is sand with bright sun but they are only coming under the foliage within those areas cause that holds heat. And I have several woods with the dark, rich, sandy sandy soils that are producing well, but again, they are coming up under the cover. So it is a challenge. !I love a challenge

... I forgot to mention that all those in the pictures were found around Pin Oaks.

Yeah I've been finding alot more around the pins ever since the ash trees went and now most of the elms are to far gone to produce. Also found some near wild Cherry this year more than usual anyway
