Nature's Calendar
The late morels this year are a sign that predictability is under siege.

I'll bet that hens will be appearing early (August) or late (last of October).

Fireflies made their first appearance in Mishawaka Indiana this evening. Last year they appeared on June 11. Over the last ten years they have appeared on the 10th or 11th.

Re: Nature's Calendar
We had a few here around a week ago although there weren't a lot until last night.
I never thought to record when they show up although I've kept loose track of robins and humming birds.

Re: Nature's Calendar
I observed just a few usually they come all at once. I know the date because June 10 is my wedding anniversary. I noticed it about 12 years ago and they have pretty much arrived on the 10th.

Smokey Mountain National Park draws large crowds for the arrival of fireflies.

My comments are not meant to be scientific just an interesting (to me) observation.

I think it's pretty cool. I'll be watching for them next year. If I remember. :)
Happy belated.

Re: Nature's Calendar
They came out around my property in Berrien Co. on June 13th, when it got really warm. I was in Northern Indiana on the 17th and they were EVERYWHERE!

Once in awhile I'll see them before Memorial Day, but this only happens once every few years.
I often see them near my pond before I see them in fields, maybe the pond is why I saw them earlier than you, mister_zee.
