From what I gather, animals only eat to stay alive and morels are not nutritious------but the snails on the morels they eat, kind of like a hotdog in a bun!!!!!!!!!!! and the wood rats think there nuts.

Thanks I was told animals stay clear of shroom and if they ate the good ones they would eat the bad ones too. How do the animals that eat them no the diff. between good shrooms and bad?
Thanks John.

My best guess is the taste, sense of smell, or learning from adult animals on what to eat, or it could be very simple, the stupid ones that eat the poisonous shrooms die and the others learn from it, sorta like nature cleaning out the gene pool of not only the unhealthy, weak or injured, but the stupid also, mike

If animals ate shrooms none of us would find em!!! There are so many deer around here,im afraid if they did like em there wouldnt be any.lol I have heard of tanimals eating them and digesting spore. But also dont believe that. I think they all stay away from shrooms.

I agree with you. There wouldn't be any left for us if animals ate mushrooms. LOL. My dog nevers eats wild mushrooms, we have beefsteaks that grow in our yard.He stays clear of them, but usually eats everything else!

Check post on Squirrels as Mycophagist's...Documented that red squirrels stash mushrooms in trees. For what its worth I had a ground squirrel visit me in an outhouse in Alaska, He/she was stashing black trumpets in the corner...surprised us both:grin:
