Re: The 1st political thread!

I think of myself as happily independent. I'm a nurturing kind of person, so I tend to want living things to thrive in one way or another. It makes me sad to see people I know and like spewing...

Re: Ash Trees in Northern LP

The numbers are down for me. All my spots for blacks now produce next to nothing since EAB. Now I'm faced with trying to find new spots and it hasn't been working out too well.

Thumbs up Re: New age morel book/pamphlet

I'll chime in if you don't mind Jon. I think a book or pamphlet from a "picker", rather than an "expert" is a great idea. Don't get me wrong, with all the experience you have in the woods, you are...

Re: Morel hunting locations

I think it's clear that morel hunting has become a career for many. I love being in the woods in the spring and I'm always hopeful I'll find enough for a dinner or two. I'd like to find more,...

Re: Kinda HOT out there!!!

Sorry about the shrooms, or lack of them. In our corner of the state, blacks were very sparse this year. I don't hunt Benzie for whites, not sure if they're done there or not.

Re: Yoopers

I hope you're having some luck. I love the Copper Country, my parents were from Hancock & Houghton & I spent my summers there as a child. I've never gone back at this time of year, so I don't know...

Re: Chandler Hills

Unless you have early spots the blacks haven't really started up really well. I've been out a few times, found verpas & 2 blacks. You're right, the woods looks like it's time. I'm starting to get...

Re: Possible Trip To Northwest Mich

Finds up here have been spotty at best. It is snowing today. The season hasn't gotten into full swing here for blacks.

There is a lot of public land to hunt. You should look for the host...

Re: found zero in oakland county

I'm with all of you. I'm further north, but my finds this year have been pretty dismal so far. I've still got hope, but we're into another colder spell, so don't really know that the blondes,...

Re: Coming the first sat. in May

The best advice I can give you is to watch "I Found Some" to see what's happening in the area you want to hunt. Then find public land (maps, plat books) with the right type of plants & trees. One...

Re: going to Boyne

If you've been reading the forum you have learned the types of trees (Ash, Elm, Wild Cherry, BTA, White Pine), type of terrain (lots of leaf litter, not a lot of undergrowth, trillium, trout lily,...

Boy, lots of Devil's Urns out there.

I was out the other day - tiny blacks & just a few of those. I saw more Devil's Urns than I think I ever have in the past. If this is any indication, when the morels really start popping I'm...

Unhappy Re: Leelanau, Benzie, or Traverse?

OK, here goes. I've been out 4 times so far and have got a grand total of 10. I was out all day today (thinking that the rain Friday night and warm temps would make em pop) and found 1. Tried &...

Re: Terrestrial Esculentas

I've noticed the same thing with the blacks. Find just a few & WAY out from the host, not much closer in.

Wink Re: Rakers

It torks me to see where folks have brushed or raked the leaf litter away, leaving the bare ground. There was some discussion a few years back on this sight about the possibility that exposing the...

It sure was a great day in the woods. Didn't find any, but found a couple more places that should produce. The warm rain will bring em on up here.

Re: Have you planned your first hunt?

I have next Thursday & Friday off, forcast is calling for some rain but highs only in the 40's. I'll probably take a hike on one of those days, but I'm not really hopeful - maybe an early spot will...

Del, I'm glad you went out. I love it out in the woods myself, the morels are almost a bonus. The wildlife & the smells of the woodland coming awake again, and of course the flowers make for a...
