Death and chocolate chip cookies

A man is lying in bed at home on death's door, having been told that he has only a few days left to live. As he's lying there, a the most wonderful smell comes wafting up the stairs—home-baked...

Re: Go Red Wings!

Franzen was an animal tonight, wasn't he? I'd like to think they can still win the series but coming from 3 down seems an insurmountable obstacle. I think they just never recovered from having to go...

Re: Yes sir, yes sir, 3 bags full - my analys

I have to ask... Coming from someone who finds may 50 in a year. How did you find all your spots and are the majority on public land?

I used to live up near Benzie Co and found my share up there,...

Re: Leelanau, Benzie, or Traverse?

Sure is hard to know what to do. I can either go this Friday or next Monday. I think it's going to have to be Friday. Blacks are done up there sounds like, or close to it. Yellows just getting...

Re: Leelanau, Benzie, or Traverse?

I'll have to wait and see what next week looks like. If we get some rain, I may chance a trip back up to my stomping grounds.

I have had little luck finding any morels around the Muskegon Co....

Leelanau, Benzie, or Traverse?

I haven't heard a peep out of these counties. Anyone hear anything?

Skunked

Zero morels for the season. I never find that many but this is ridiculous. The black season seems to have passed me by and unless we get some rain the later morels will follow suit. I can't believe...

Allegan County: Nothing yet

Spent about 2 1/2 hours in the field today but found nothing but three or four beefsteaks, which I obviously left alone.

The woods looked awfully dry.

like to learn to hunt chanterelles

I some info about them on this site but not much about how to hunt them. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, there you go. With morels every rule has an exception!

Re: Michigan Yellow Morels

Unfortunately there's no guarantee that ashes will grow morels. Sometimes they do grow well on burned areas, other times not. Also, I wonder what type of tree you actually cut down since cranberries...

Areas that flood

I've almost never find morels in areas that flood, even occasionally. Anyone else find that to be true? Maybe something to do with the water washing away the spores or something. Who knows.

Case...

Re: Give Up

You're right about that, huntergatherer. So far this year I've seen two woodcocks, a box turtle, a turkey's nest, and several deer--not to mention all the spring wildflowers, fresh air and exercise.

Re: Give Up

Am now finding some here and there around Spring Lake/Fruitport. A couple dozen or so, so far. Am going up to Empire/Benzie Co. on Thursday.

Re: Give Up

Michshroom, are your spots on public land or private? I'm guessing private... The public land around here is really bad for morels. I have one spot where I can find a hatful. Other than that it's a...

Re: Give Up

I agree with you guys, but I see the season slipping by with no morels to show for all my scrounging.

When I lived up north a bad afternoon's hunt was a dozen or so. My grand total from this area...

Re: Give Up

Man, I'm about to give up too. This Grand Haven/Spring Lake/Fruitport area is devoid of morels. There's very little public land to hunt on and what there is isn't conducive to morels. I know people...

Re: Ain't it weird?

Shroomstalker, you're in Grand Haven? I work there and live in Fruitport. I have had a really hard time finding any spots down here. I have a couple of spots where I can find dozen or so every year...

Ain't it weird?

There's one area I've searched for three springs in a row and never found even a sniff of a morel. But it's just so dang likely looking I can't help myself. It's a stand of poplars with just the...
