Very strange? I've only seen one hen this season in Ohio nobody I know has seen any. Been picking shaggy parasols , blewits , shaggy manes & boletes but no hens. Also no hericium.???

Thanks Bob. I did find 2 guys that had it . Both had an IV put in that goes to your heart with daily injections of antibiotics for 30 days. One of their docs moved back to PA & the other retired....

Yeah, worlds gone crazy! I think he was jealous of all the women getting all the attention. If not for the nature & outdoor shows on tv I'd be throwing my tv out the window.

There are no lookalikes. I think there is a shelf mushroom that has teeth, but that would be growing on wood.

Great post truffledog. Sporeprints are a must with blewits. I also have seen them in rings . Under leaves sometimes you can find more by following the ring. I had some concerns last year with blewits...

I found a good haul about 2 weeks ago & haven't found anymore since. The 2 that I left didn't grow in size either. I hope there are more flushes. I keep looking.

After a very good summer of picking, September was a total bust for me. October has been much better. I only saw 2 shaggy manes a week ago in a place that's usually loaded. Go figure.

The blackberries in my area just started a week ago but their big & sweet. Looking forward to making the cordial recipe I found on this site(Eddies, I think ?). It came out great last year.

I like black's the best also, then the heavy grey's, although I don't find to many. I did find a couple bear's head last fall. Sauteed them in butter, very good & different. How do you cook them?

While hunting today I saw what looks like clusters of oysters on a big fallen tree along a river. They were pretty big & very fresh. Didn't seem to have much smell. I've never picked or eaten oysters...
