Re: Another first

It may not be too late. Second flush of shaggy parasols in my back yard.

I'm going to take a look for hens again today.

Another first

This is the first time I've not found even one hen.

However, 3 or 4 years ago I found one in edible condition in mid November.

Anyone find hens recently?

Something to consider

I'm living on Social Security and subsequently have a limited budget.

I've made a small donation to help keep this board going.

If you can't afford a big donation then send a couple of bucks. ...

Re: Anyone finding anything edilble?

I've found chickens but most were past prime. A few places that always have chicken of the woods have not had any so far.

With the rain today in Indiana I expect to find chants and perhaps Shaggy...

I observed just a few usually they come all at once. I know the date because June 10 is my wedding anniversary. I noticed it about 12 years ago and they have pretty much arrived on the 10th.

Nature's Calendar

The late morels this year are a sign that predictability is under siege.

I'll bet that hens will be appearing early (August) or late (last of October).

Fireflies made their first appearance in...

Re: Ash borer 2nd generation - question

Invasive species.org/insects is very complete site for information.

A new infestation of asian beetles is appearing and they like to kill several tree varieties.

Burn area morels

I wonder if the area around Gatlinburg will produce morels?

I haven't been in that area for several years and I don't remember what type of trees (besides pines) grew there.

Re: How much is too much?

The causes can be numerous for suddenly becoming intolerant to certain foods.

A cousin cannot eat morels after unknowingly ingesting too many verpas.

Re: First Morel in Michigan?

I can believe a few could pop up. A large number of them would be difficult.

I've witnessed improbable mushroom fruiting of other varieties.

Get into the woods when you are able. I missed the morels and now I may not be able to get the hens. I know some of you old timers face the same challenges.

Re: other things out right now...

There are 16 to 18 varieties of mulberries but most the trees are the same variety.

One tree I stumbled upon has berries the size of blackberries. They are sweeter than the common variety.
