agree with Kzoo, they really don't like to be seen and generally run before you even get close to them. I've yet to see one in MI, but this has been my experience with them in West Virginia....

chanterelles will be coming up pretty soon here. look in dominant oak forests. some produce, some dont. there are many others that associate in these woods and you'll find all kinds of fungus so...

I have an overwhelming amount of clay loam soils where I find my morels because that's where the trees are. I don't slay them like I know I should be because of the soil. Large diameter elms only...

yeah but weed killer is gonna kill everything, and the garlic mustard is everywhere so it would be fairly futile. they produce soooo many seeds per plant.... very effective reproduction lol.

started in 2011 i think. used to do it once a year on the family fishing trip in west virginia. then i realized that MI was a great place to hunt for morels! go figure :)

i think we all have a lot to learn about the morels and the way they select their hosts, and even straight decaying matter. more often than not i would say that they are growing mycorrhizal...
