Maybe you haven't, but do you look? A lot of people never have, because they dont believe they will grow near oaks.Thats because its not the hugely popular tree such as white ash and tulip poplar or American elm. The oak may not be the host tree but it definitely wont hurt anything. A morel must fruit to survive, and if the soil is correct, it doesn't much matter what kind of tree is there. Check out my pics on the photo forum, dominantly oaks. Only trying to help. good luck all.

Yeah im always down for checking new ground. the Cherry mixed in makes a lot of sense! i mean oak is a heavy litter tree, the blacks like lots of leaf litter on the ground it seems. I have only found blacks on what i believe to be was an ash for the host... but it's a VERY mixed area and they're the only blacks i've found here in St. Clair County. Been checking the BTA coming up empty handed all season! Good luck to all!

My property is dominant oak, some Ash (now all dead because of the #$%! Ash Boar).........and then mixed in I have some black cherry.

I have never found blacks in straight up Oak stands, and I have looked, but like this spot, it just took one black cherry split into 4 main trunks (for some reason I find more around trees with double or more trunks?)

I agree, I don't in my opinion believe Oaks are a host tree around these parts, but it only takes one host and the right soil.

Cherries seem to be a lot more hit and miss than live ash or popples for blacks.....
