Wood Anemone and Dutchman's Breeches are now in bloom in Berrien County.
There are also Spring Beauties blooming in the third photo, on the far left side of the picture.

Re: Spring Flowers 2013

These aren't technically flowers, but some will be later and some were earlier.
When the Sugar Maples bloom is usually when I find decent blacks.
Their buds, in the first photo are swollen and ready to bloom.
In the second and third photos, Silver Maple leaves are coming out and seeds are developing. (Last year the seeds developed on many trees before the leaves came out.)
These are photos I took today. (My camera that can date-stamp photos died last winter, and I have another one that can't read cards, and can only take 17 photos. I have to upload them to my computer and delete them before I take more..I'll use that camera to post my harvests.)

Mayapple are now sprouting in SW MI, Hepatica is still blooming, as is Bloodroot, and the White Trillium will be blooming soon. I also saw Jack-in-the-Pulpit sprouts, which look like white fangs sticking up out of the ground. These photos were taken yesterday, 4/28/13.

Tuliptrees and Black Cherries are also getting their leaves in SW MI.
Spicebushes are also in bloom now. The overexposed photo is of female flowers, the better photo is of male flowers.
These photos were also taken in Berrien County on 4/28/13.

Re: Spring Flowers 2013

The Sugar Maples are starting to bloom in SW MI. I usually start finding good morels at the same time the Sugar Maples bloom. Based on the fact that these trees don't bloom every year. (They mast, then the following year very few trees, if any get flowers, and those trees often only have one or two flower clusters), you probably won't see these flowers next year. Our trees have flowers from top to bottom on almost every branch.

Here is a picture of Trillium which is now blooming in Berrien County. I also have pictures of Spring Beauty and Squirrel Corn. Also, the Red Maples are getting leaves, which to me is a sign that it is morel time. (And I also found 1 of those today )
