Re: Oysters, Lobsters, Chants, and Black Trum

what terrain do you find the hedgehogs around, and what are the characteristics of the fresher specimens? do they get lots of maggots like golden chants do?

Re: Oysters, Lobsters, Chants, and Black Trum

I find hedgehogs in the same areas as chants.
I often pick the small ones thinking I found a pale dry golden chant(until I look underneath of course).
The big ones can get some bugs. Not as much as gold chants.
I always pass on about 50-60% of golden chants because of bugs. That is why I have always preferred cinnabars.
Cinnabars only seem to get buggy once in a while when they get fully opened up.
Young ones whose caps haven't upturned yet almost never have any critters!
Same with hogs. There are 2 species that grow around here. A big species and a smaller species.
I don't think I have ever found the small variety with bugs regardless of development stage.
The large variety, when fully grown, is a coin flip.
One thing I can tell you about hedgehogs, THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!
