The Autumn Olive have little specks on them that you can feel. I think those are the Autumn Olive in the picture even though I can't see up close. They have one seed inside that is edible and quite tasty.

Wayne, I'll take one out of the freezer and let it defrost naturally instead of putting it on the dehydrator. Maybe I'll just take a chunk out and not a whole hen. I'm thinking if I take a whole hen and clean it under cool water and then break it up and cook it right away it should be fine.

I'm going to get out in the woods in a few minutes. I don't need anymore hens but I can't help myself, I have to look! I don't pick anything else this time of year. I don't like puff balls and I'm never confident on Blewit ID and there aren't any honeys.

I know what I'll do... I've got a dirty hen that I don't really want to clean. I'll stick it in the freezer and defrost it in different ways... such as microwave, running water, counter top etc. I don't mind losing that one.

The berries do have silver specks on them with a yellow elongated seed. They taste very tart. When I have to many hens I dehydrate them & grind in a coffee grinder. Makes a great powder for rice, pasta, eggs & anything else.

That sounds like a good test Doreen. Make sure to let us know how it comes out. I usually toss frozen hens right in the pan.

Rick. I am interested in what you think of the autumn Berry's. Keep us posted on what you do with them. Thanks

Picked another hen, not a big one, and left another. I had to come home and get my flashlight because I'm going after trumpets. Found 2 ounces today.

I don't understand trumpets yet. They seem to come up in flushes for many months.

I went out and checked oak and pines like others find their trumpets in. Didn't find a single one tonight. Had a thunderstorm develop over me and then got wet. It was pretty nice though. I love the rain.

I found a nice bears head tooth on a willow and had to knock it down with a stick. Yum it was gooooood.

I've got autumn olives on my property up north. Taste decent but annoying weed tree/bush!
