Emergency Canning Rack!

Went to pressure can a big batch of chili (17 quarts) and discovered I no longer had a rack to put in bottom of cooker.
The last time this happened to me years ago, I just put a small towel folded into bottom of canner. It worked, but ruined the towel. The fibers that were on the bottom remained forever thereafter, stiff. LOL

So this was my attempt at different makeshift rack.

I placed some used rusty or bent rings on bottom.

You could stop right there, and be okay, but I like to make sure the jars don't touch each other, or the sides of canner.

So...

I cut a circle out of cardboard, slightly smaller than diameter of canner, and placed on top of rings.

It worked perfectly! The wet cardboard held the jars in place so they didn't touch each other.

Now can anyone tell me where old canning racks go to die, or why they hide so well if they didn't die? LOL

How did the cardboard board hold up? I envision it being a mess when you were done...

It was OK Vance. It didn't pull apart or warp at all, until after I took it out and it started to dry out. Inside the canner, it was under water, so stayed the same as it went in.
