Canthaerllus Species

These are one of three new Chanterelles. They are Cantharellus phasmatis. C. phasmatis is stouter, thicker stemmed and meatier then other Chanterelles. At maturity the gills & stems will turn completely yellow. Phasmatis means Ghost, because of it's white stem an gills at a very early stage.

The bottom right batch are ones Jon & I found in his Hunting Grounds. I believe they are either C. flavus ( which has a bright yellow spore color ) or C. roseocanus, possibly. I didn't do a spore print on them. They have very thin stems compared to C. phasmatis. They also had an extremely strong apricot / fruity smell. Smelled the whole house up.

Re: Canthaerllus Species

im pretty sure those ghost chanterelles are what I'm picking. I do find the other ones as well, but i would say the majority of what I pick are the ghost. I'll try and post some pics next time i get out. interesting.
