That's a good haul there jack! I need to take more shots of them in the field! My tabletop pictures leave much to be desired, lol

Re: Good haul

i always prefer the field shots! I have never found honeys before... what kind of stumps do they like to grow from? recently dead? certain tree species? i'll be getting out this week for hens and trumpets (if there are any trumpets!) and whatever else I can get my hands on. I have been slackin on the shroomin! haven't been out since July.

I always enjoy Mushroom Jack's photos and videos. Those are some very nice pictures!

Jack, do you eat the Clavariadelphus pistillaris?

Also, do you ever use cinnabar chats in vodka?

To Shluby: Shame on you! lol

I wasn't here in July and half of August so I really have no idea what you missed. My husband said it was a very rainy summer for us in Ingham county but when I went into the woods for the first time(August 12th I think) I found almost nothing. BUT... things are really popping now. I'm finding all sorts of good things down here but I think you are a Yooper so this post may be unhelpful. My dehydrator is running 24 hours and I might have to plug in another one once I pick hens and trumpets today.

I find honeys in mixed oak forests on old stumps and trees. They seem to be very prolific some years and other years, I only see a few. I've seen lots of this year but not so many honeys.

Re: Good haul

Great job!!!

I would love to meet up sometime. Just to learn what to look for. I know morels hedgehogs and chanterelles (sorta) but besides those I just pick to look at them.

The guy from Michigan Mushroom Market in Petoskey had those yellowfoots for sale at the Harbor Springs farmer's market Saturday. I had never seen them before. Thanks for the pic!

Re: Good haul

Celticcurl, no I didn't eat the Club Mushrooms. There is one kind that are supposed to be sweet tasting, but I've never found them yet. Gary Lincoff had some posted on Facebook awhile back. The Honey's are done by me and the Gypsy's are on their way out too. I only found enough Gypsy's today to make a small batch of Cream Soup. I did get to freeze and dry a good amount while they lasted. As far as making vodka with the Red Chanterelles, I haven't. Mainly cause I don't find them here in the Lewiston area. When I lived by the Lapeer State Game area I could find hundreds of them. But not here. I think they would be great though, maybe their peppery flavor would mix well with the vodka, and probably give it a red coloring too.
cjhsa, I don't know if you know Ken & Ashleigh from the Mushroom Market, but last week the Market burned down. As of right now they are out of business. I think they have a sight for donations to get them started again. Their insurance didn't cover the fire, for reasons unknown. That's such a drag cause they were starting to really take off good. They had started getting their Wild Mushroom Fresh Food items going well too. They are still doing the Farmers Markets though.

I spoke to Ashleigh Saturday and she said nothing about it. That's a bummer. Wasn't that also their house?
