I wish you could find some. They really are a treat. So pretty and they smell so good.

Don't loose hope. Nothing in central mi yet and last year I didn't find my first until late sept. Doreen always finds them earlier than I.

Have hope my dear Northern friends.

I found this grouping of 5 yesterday as well as a few on the other side of the tree. I'm betting these will all grow together and become one of those 40 pounders I hear folks brag about now and then. I doubt I will allow it to reach mammoth size because I prefer them young. I will check on them Tuesday.

The hen on my favorite tree is still there and has passed the 6 inch mark.

I'll probably pick it this week.

Found my first ones today in NE Ohio. Weren't there 3 days ago. I can't get back there until Monday so I picked them. Other guys hunt here. Gave a few away at work. Took these home.

Great picture. Thanks for sharing!

I've actually stopped picking them. It was really hard for a hen hog like me to leave them in the woods.

I've made pickles out of the babies but in all honesty I prefer the larger hens. It seems so much of the babies are wasted because of the amount of dirt stuck to them. Once they mature I just cut the tops and leave the dirty bottoms to spore out. I find so many it just makes sense to do it that way. UNLESS someone can prove to me it damages the mycelium.

I also like to leave some for the slugs. Our tiny slugs have to eat too. If anyone wants to see a picture of some of the WA slugs I'll post one. Those sluggers get between 6 inches to a foot long when stretched out. I bet they can eat a hen very quickly. Never saw them in groups as I do here.
