Ash trees

Hi, I am new to this sight. I am actually from northeast Indiana, east of Fort Wayne. I am in the Western edge of the black swamp. Farm country now with almost no public land. Heavy clay ground grows everything but morels.

That's why we've been going to Michigan for many years. Love it there all times of the year.
Heading to Mesick area next week. Last year we noticed the EA had gotten to the ash trees, and many were dying. Are the dead ash still worth hunting, or is there a different tree we should target? Any help appreciate.

Re: Ash trees

The dead ash trees have been very good spots to find morels - we certainly have a unlimited supply here in Michigan

Re: Ash trees

dead ash has never been good for me. i find very little around dead ash and 97% of the time nothing at all. Dead elm is what you want for dead tree hosts. living ash is much better. but i would say if the ash has died only very recently it might be a good spot still.
