Mike, Elms do often times have a champagne glass profile to them, but it very hard to spot unless they are out in the open and not deep in woods. Bark is an easier way to tell.

What other trees are supposed to be a good place to look around? I forget. Ash?

Re: Morel Season Preparedness weekly countdow

Hello to all. My dad and I used to go mushroom hunting up near the Gaylord area when I was a kid. It has been years since we have gone. I am looking to revive that trip this year. I remember hunting Black Ash trees back in the day. But here in Indiana the Emerald Ash Borer has decimated all the ash trees around me. I was wondering if the same thing has happened in northern Michigan, and if so what other types trees are good to hunt besides Elm. Also where are some places near Gaylord that are ok for us to hunt. Thanks!

Re: Morel Season Preparedness weekly countdow

I know this post is from a couple years ago, but for the purposes of anyone reading this post now, the answer is; yes, the emerald ash borer has decimated the ash tree in Michigan. There's a few still alive.
