Maitake Mushroom (Hen of the Woods) Find

I found these yesterday in the woods of Southwest Michigan. I prepped them and tried some last night to make sure they did not make me sick. There were delicious! I'm going to have some for lunch today!

Edit: Sorry for the sideways photos...I'm new to this forum.

Nice!
If you're taking photos with your phone, you should hold it horizontally, so the photo will be wider than it is tall, like your computer screen!

Thanks for the response Jeff! I appreciate it. And I will make sure to hold my phone horizontally next time.

Upon a second look, is it possible that this is a Black Staining Polypore instead? The "pedals" are much bigger than I've seen on most Hen photos...

I was going to respond on it being a black stainer. The dark edges & shape don't really look like a hen. Without holding it in my hand hard to tell for sure. Hens have a more lobed petal. Did it turn black when you broke it apart?

Yes, it turns out it was a black stainer...I guess they are edible when young, which this one was, but I'm going to throw it out to be safe.
