Morels Are On My Mind!

I had my first morel dream in a long time. I dreamed I was hunting morels with my mother, and finding nice grays in my spot in Van Buren Co., and found one nice black. This is where I used to hunt with her and my brother after school back around 1980.
What's weird is, I haven't hunted with my mother in over 25 years, and she has been unable to hunt for about 20 years due her osteoarthritis.

It's always disappointing when I wake up and realize it was just a dream and the reality is it's still winter and I have to wait a few more months before morels are here.

Re: Morels Are On My Mind!

I'm getting the fever big time!

I sit in front of the computer watching videos of mushrooms while dusting off my old burn morels from last year. I must have done a lousy job field cleaning because they are slightly gritty. I don't have much else to do so I'm taking a paint brush to them.

Doing the same thing to some of my black trumpets. I can't stand grit. Some were cleaned and then dried and some were just dried... bad mistake on my part.

Don't be sad when awaking from those dreams Jochs. Just realize that it is a memory which came alive and let you actually experience it once again. Not just remembering, but really experiencing it, with all the joy and good feelings you felt in those times. A gift of love from above.

You're so right, Frank! I never thought of it that way.

And as for having morels on my mind, I know I'm not alone, as I've seen many people posting photos of morels and saying that it won't be long now.

So far I haven't seen any reports this year, other than landscape morels in California in early January. I imagine they'll be finding them in the Southern states soon.

Re: Morels Are On My Mind!

I haven't had any dreams, but I admit to looking around a bit while I walk the dog in the park. Been doin' some pre-season scouting for new spots. I am stoked, after last year I am ready for a good season!

Re: Morels Are On My Mind!

I had to bump this thread, because I had another morel dream last night. This time, I found a bunch of older ones and was afraid I had missed the season.
I was relieved when I woke up because I hadn't missed the season, but a little disappointed because this spring is so late and it will be a couple of weeks at least before I find any in Berrien County. Many years I've already found some by now.
The nice things about my morel dreams is that in the dreams, I am finding morels, and an not worrying about anything else like work or bills or anything else that might be stressful.

This quote of Frank's should go down in history as one of the most beautiful things ever said.

"Don't be sad when awaking from those dreams Jochs. Just realize that it is a memory which came alive and let you actually experience it once again. Not just remembering, but really experiencing it, with all the joy and good feelings you felt in those times. A gift of love from above."

I hope Frank is enjoying the great Morel Hunt in the great beyond.
