Hunting in WI

Has anyone hunted in Wisconsin? I know it is a hot bed but my family has never been before. We are debating on taking an exploratory trip up there to see what we can find. Does anyone know areas that are huntable with public access?

Re: Hunting in WI

The river bottom regions near the Mississippi River seem to be hottest. Dutch elm disease is just now reaching many areas there. Iowa and Nebraska are similarly hot. I hunted Missouri a few years ago. The first area I went to near KC produced a few, but the ticks were unbearable. Went toward southern Missouri and got stuck on a muddy road. $200 tow truck later made an early end to the trip.

I was thinking about going to chequamegon-nicolet national forest as I dont know anyone out there to get permission to hunt private land down by the river.

I am a cheesehead born and raised in WI depending how far your going into WI the Kettles both North and South are great places to hunt just bring lots of tick repellent ticks are terrible here in WI but I always found it worth the risk for morels and other mushrooms when do you plan on visiting?
