May 6 7lbs 10 oz in Ontario

Finally a day with no heavy rain although wife and I were out in a drizzle.
7C temp...felt like late fall out there. Same latitude as mid Michigan. Things were starting two weeks ago but the cold stalled things a bit. Many more good days ahead I suspect but this was our best day of foraging in 3 years. Good luck all.

Re: May 6 7lbs 10 oz in Ontario

We were out again yesterday and another 7 lbs. Michigan has always been more productive for morels than Ontario. I can't understand this year as many in Michigan seem to be finding less than other years.
Just curious, do any of you foragers have a "place" that has always been very very good and over time it seems to fade out? One place we hunted about 9 years ago was always spectacular and for the last 3 years...none, zero, zippo, even though more elms are present and now dead. Hunting morels is always interesting...full of both happy and sad surprises. Also, some of our spots produce year after year after year...faithfully.

Yes some spots produce for ever some spots especially near elms fade out as the elm tree decays. And some spots just disappear, could be the root system gets damaged or loses the nutrients in that area.
