Re: Ash Trees in Northern LP

I live in Emmet County and moved up here about 5 years ago. The trees were infected but still produced in the process of dying for the last few years. Most are stone dead now and not producing much. Very sad!

The clear-cuts have reduced morel growth. This is the third year since the cuts. Remaining ash have produced some, but not as well as previous years. Taller stumps are still producing. I can only assume that this is due to their extended dying period. 20+ years hunting the 45th and my first year of disappointment. Which is why I always keep searching new areas 😊Happy hunting!

Re: Ash Trees in Northern LP

Just devastating what has happened to the ash. For us we have absolutely noticed a big reduction in morels near the ash. By far more devastating is the total destruction they have done to our beautiful ash trees that were the most majestic tree in the forest and are now on the brink of extinction. Huge natural disaster for our state!

What does this do to the morel hunting industry in northern Michigan? Other than ash what do people recommrnend for hunting.

Sad but forever a moreller!
