Chants

Took a walk with my daughter & found a few. Some rain should get them going good.

Re: Chants

I should come as little surprise that I also had my first Chants in Waterloo/Pinckney rec areas, border of Jackson and Wastenaw counties. While everyone else was flooding it was dry here until 8 days ago. Since then I've had 6 inches of rain in 3 major events and a few little rains. I saw the first few right off, and was dreaming a rich and long delight, but there weren't that many. No Laetiporus cincinnatus yet, so perhaps I'll have to wait til the late ones.

Good grief Rork.... I'm not too far away from you and it's STILL dry here! It did rain today but not much is popping in the woods. I haven't even seen a black trumpet this year. Picked two button chants last week and haven't seen anymore since then.

Went out to look for baby hens today. Nada.

Edit: I see Rork's post is over a month old but I can't pass up a chance to complain about how dry it's been...

Re: Chants

Yes, the rain I spoke of was the end of it. I'm chantless. A friend of mine had 2 white-pored-hen-of-the-woods (Laetiporus cincinnatus) finds 10 days ago, and we both are seeing the yellow pored ones (sulfur shelf), but it's just the rare giant logs making them - perhaps it took that long for them to get un-waterlogged. Saw a big elm manage to make oysters too.
