Another first

This is the first time I've not found even one hen.

However, 3 or 4 years ago I found one in edible condition in mid November.

Anyone find hens recently?

No. And I've been in woods full of giant black oak often cause of deer hunting. It's a common tree near me.
No hedgehogs so far either - but I have not given up hope, yet.
Ground may not be that cold yet and I saw some of these things even Nov 10 last year.
I had a few honey mushroom in my yard (they come up in my "lawn" near certain woody plants) but no big wads in the forest.
I plan to check white pine again this weekend if I can, but I'm busy hunting, and prepping for holloween party at our place, and visitors/daughter.
Best wishes.

Re: Another first

The only hens I found were before September 14. I only picked 3 this year before I left for TN for 3 weeks.

I've been looking since I've been back and have found nothing. In the past few weeks I've found old black stainers and only one or 2 old hen bodies.

What is going on? 2012 was a hot dry year but it was fantastic for hens! I guess it did cool down in August that year and we got some rain. But I'm not positive about that rain...

The puffballs have popped again.

No new honeys down here but we did find some edible ones near Mt. Pleasant last weekend with Sister Marie and the MMHC.

I haven't seen a black trumpet this year and I haven't seen a cinnabar chanterelle. The only hedgehogs I found were in TN.

Worst year ever for me!

Worst year for me also. Even the undesirable varieties were absent.

It may not be too late. Second flush of shaggy parasols in my back yard.

I'm going to take a look for hens again today.

I haven't given hope hope for more hens yet. I found a few pounds of Entoloma abortivum today. Boy was I surprised! Sill doing okay with the Flammunlina velutipes and sort of okay with the Tricholoma myomyces.

I hope you guys find those hens soon!

Looks like cold and snow tonight and into Friday across most of MI, with temps falling into the teens in areas not affected by lake effect snow.
