While driving around photo!

I went back to the spot were I spotted the mushroom clusters in a yard and the owner was cutting his grass. I asked if I could get a picture of his mushroom and he gave me his approval. Here is the photo. I believe they are the ringless honies. They were under a nice sized Oak tree. They were about ten feet from the base of the tree.

Re: While driving around photo!

These were growing in a well cared for lawn so I would not eat anything found there do to chemical use. It rained hard last night so the spores were washed away. They were growing close to a big Oak tree.
I personally have not eaten any of the honies. After reading about some close calls and mis- identifying and getting them confused with the galerina I am leary of these. The people around here call them stumpers. The local species have hair like fibers on the tops. I believe it was Happy Trails that commented an identifying trait is in the early button stage there is a yellow tint around the viel.

I believe the Shittake is a relative of the honie. I have purchase some of them in a local store. Cincinatti has a specialty store that sells a large variety of mushrooms. I think it is called Jungle Jims.

Jason, I don't think that anyone would object to you posting "needless extra info" The honey's look-a-like is deadly. Thank you for posting so clearly on it.

Re: While driving around photo!

All feedback is appriciated. I will drive around the area later today and see if I can find some more and do a better job with photos and do a spore print. I read an article from the mushroomexpert.com site and he has some photos of some guy's front yard is covered with the things. He made the comment they are one of the easiest mushrooms to I.D.???????????????

Re: While driving around photo!

I went out to take some more photos and I actually did. I found some black staining polypores and took several photos. When I got home I was going to down load them to the computer when I realized the the card was already in the computer and was never in the camera when I took the photos. Oh well?????????????
