2 of my favorite things

Got to do 2 of my favorite things today. Paddle my kayak and be in the woods. It's not unusual to paddle through the woods while going down or upstream on the river, but with all the rain we got this weekend>>>

the rivers are very high and i was able to paddle my kayak where i would
normally have to walk in the woods. Just love floating silently between the
trees. Saw many mushrooms that I could not identify and a few soggy, full-of-bug hens. Wish I had my camera with me.

Re: 2 of my favorite things

Well Ed (Swmich realtor), this is first year with my kayak.
I Have been paddling from the park in comstock by the firestation and going upstream, or on Morrow pond/Kilowatt lake. Went all the way to
the dam yesterday, but today the park was closed becouse the river has
flooded all of the parking lot, bathrooms, and Maint. garage. No where
to park.

I usually paddle the Kalamazoo river from Parchment to D ave. - or D ave.
to the park in Plainwell many times every year in my canoe, but have not
been able to find anyone to go with me this year. Have also been on that river
from Battle Creek to Comstock, and most of the way to Lake Michigan.

D Avenue to Plainwell should be awsome today and the rest of the week
with the water so high. We do not get many chances to be on the river
when it is moving this fast. Anyone able to go with me on the river????
Need at least 2 people/vehicles to do that trip.

Man, I drove over the D Ave bridge this morning. That is some scary water! I also drove in downtown Kalamazoo yesterday and I was stunned at how many homes and businesses are still under water.

I have some friends that fish D Ave to Plainwell for small mouths. I have never done it with them. They apparently don't get much size but hook fish all day long.

there are some big ones in that part of the river. I do not fish, but freinds that i have gone with in that area have caught some nice ones. Not much traffic on the kalamazoo river. I think everyone is concerned about the pollution from years past from the paper companys. i would not eat the fish, but they are there for anyone doing catch and release.

Drove by the river in Parchment today (by Mosel ave.) --- the water is 3" below the railroad trestle that is usually 5 ft. above the river. D ave. launch may be underwater.

I haven't done that in Michigan, Mike. But when I lived in GA for a couple of years, I used to go fishing in a several thousand acres lake of flooded cypress trees. It was so cool just going through the woods and seeing wildlife you seldom see from the shore. Plus I hooked some mighty big bass and bream in there.

But my biggest enjoyment was drifting/paddling between the trees,
