Found this today

Rich and I ate our first hens today, really enjoyed. We went for a walk in the woods and came across this growing out of a dead aspen. Coud it be a bears tooth thats starting to dry out ?

Soaked it in some salt water and the brown tips turned back to white. Was going to trim them off but going to go ahead and saute the whole thing up for lunch.

Thanks Deb for the heads up on giant puffball. We seen 5 of them yesterday while out and about. Rich has had them, I havent but he said he wasnt all that fond of them. Guess if you saute them in butter they taste like butter? He wants hens now, come on rain ; )
Want to go trail riding after this rain is passed? let me know.

Sorry I missed you today Barb. Hey you and Rich should have gone and checked that mushroom out. I saw this morning it was flattening out (no longer ball shaped) it was a Huge pink bottom! Frank measured it and it's 8" across. No bugs, it had just lost the membrane, just barely pink colored gills. He's having it with his steak tonight.

Re: Found this today

Hi gang,
I found a 3' square bears head (pure white and new), I sauted it in butter and the first bite was BITTER, so I threw the rest away...yuck!

I did what Luckyshroomer did, one bite and spit, that was enough for me, never swallowed so didnt get upset tummy.
