HEN in July???

Found this tired Hen yesterday...first time EVER this early !

Been a wierd year. I've yet to hit the wood seriously but I'd bet I'd find hedgehogs also.

go take a walk they are not going to knock on your door--and a good long walk is good for the soul helps clear the mind too

Brian my friend,i hate to be the one to burst your bubble.What you found is NOT the hen of the woods (Grifola frondosa) but rather the
Meripilus sumstinei. Having much larger fonds then our beloved hen.

You've opened my eyes Leonard!

I always thought they were the same mushroom, but with the bigger and darker leaves of the M. sumstinei I thought it was just a older and tougher Hen. Now I see the difference. Thanks.

The M. sumstinei is not mentioned in the Audubon field guide that I have.
