Definately a chicken. Yeah... cut it apart and clean it well. I cube mine then freeze what I won't use within a couple of days. They've held up well in the freezer.

I wouldn't expect to see Hens until September, as this is when my Audubon's guide says. Wow, that's next month isn't it??
Based on the color, I would say these are Chickens, as hens are grayer.

Chickens are out May-Nov. Both are choice edibles.

Crazy to hear Jeff but there has been a few hens found already this year. Odd but true. I've not found any but then again I've only hit the woods once...

I like chickens but would pass over 3 or 4 chickens for one nice sized hen. Good stuff.

Last year the Hens came REALLY early, but it was a "cold" summer. I got all of mine before September, and then didn't find much after that. This year, I think will be more "typical". If there is such a thing when we are talking about mushrooms!!!

Yes, this isn't a "typical" year. I found yellows before May 1, which I don't recall ever doing...though I'm sure others have.
One year I was finding blacks in mid-May, when our morel season in S MI seemed to be over.
Good luck finding chickens, hens, and whatever else!!
