What the heck was that?

Hello all.
It has bee many a moon since I have been on here due to illness and and other problems that have kept me from going out into the woods to do one of my favorite things in the world. But that never means my eyes don't keep looking off to the side while I am driving. Today I was running late to work and cut through a back parking lot, when something sprouting up out of the ground caught my eye.
The shroomer in me came to life and I had to turn back. I had very little time so I just grabbed my camera hit the zoom and racked off a couple shots. I thought even for a false morel this seems odd to be out this time of year. What the heck is this thing?
Later tonight when I got out I drove back got out and did a close up shot of it. I did not pick it, seeing no use in picking it if I had no idea if it was good bad or ugly. Bu was wondering what you all might think by these shots if might have a clue. After looking at them just now I did not even notice the ones growing at the bottom of the photo.
Thanks
Ed

I was in Grand Rapids a couple of weeks ago and caught a whiff of some stinkhorns. (Once you smell them, you'll always remember them.)
I looked around for them and found a clump of Dog Stinkhorns growing in some wood chips. I remembered what they smell like because we had some under our lilac bushes a few years ago.

Our friend Marilyn in Gaylord horse Sonny, likes to paw down any and all Stinkhorns he finds in the corral, thus sharing the more intense aroma with his owner. LOL Marilyn didn't seem to appreciate his sharing.
