M55 Wexford County

Headed north over the weekend and just had to take a walk through the woods. Snow still heavy in the woods off M55 in Wexford although the south facing slopes are looking clear. Rained most of the weekend 65 degrees on Friday then a big drop down into the low 40's by Saturday, snow expected today and tomorrow. Temps near and below freezing predicted for the coming week. Shoots of bloodroot starting to pop out but only about a thumb nail up out of the ground. I think we are still several weeks out from the start of the season in Wexford . Heading back in two weeks. Praying for warmer weather.

Nice to hear the report. Maybe this year we will cross paths in the area. Good hunting to you,

Hunt up there in the Harrietta hills. Love it up there. Good luck this year.

Thanks Shroonthumper. Figure mothers day weekend should be right on track in the north this years. I think we got spoiled with last year when we were finding them in mid April. Hope all is well with you and your family and that we cross paths in the woods this year. Wishing you a great season!

Harrietta Hills huh?

I hunt there as well sometimes.
Last year I found an area where most of the ash trees had been cut down because of the Emerald Ash Borers...kinda sad because the hills around Harrietta have always been a good spot for morels.

Re: M55 Wexford County

Last year it snowed the first week in may up in the mesick and harrietta hills...found a few but it sure was cold and wet. Found most of my blacks east of Big Rapids last year. This year I hope to find more blacks.

I've got 11 people wanting to Hunt with me. Do you think we will find at least one for each if us to get the excitement going when we go to Harietta hills? Thanks for a location. Don't have many spots downstate anymore.

Short visit to my early spot on Saturday the 26th. Even though it had rained the day before the woods were still very very dry. Not a one found. Starting to worry I might miss the season there since my time in the north is limited. Will definitely take all my friends to harrietta hills. Never been there but always looking for a new spot that produces. Thanks for the tip
