Falsies... two ways...

I spent a few hours trekking around the woods yesterday. No luck except two kinds of Gyromitra. I've not positively ID either yet but pretty certain the lighter is Gyromitra esculenta. Over the last few seasons the vast majority of what I see locally is the darker species. The lighter one was the size of my fist and in a cluster of about a half dozen. The darker one was solitary and about 2/3 the size of the other. Nope, I don't eat these.

The lighter one is a Beefsteak...The darker one I'm not sure of myself...
