FIRST Hen of the year

I looked in all the spots and found this 6 pound brown Hen at the time today on my phone.

Most excellent... Can't wait...

The best lessons are those learned before you wish you had known better, especially when thinking edible mushrooms.

The fronds look more like a berkleys polypore. I dunno, something looks off from the hens I've seen. Anyone else think so?

Brian my friend, you need to go back to your "Hen in July ???" post and take a good look at the link i included in my reply.

jon,you are right about the large fonds. NOT a HEN

How is it that one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire??

I know how it is, Brian. You want to find them so bad, that everything starts looking like them!!! Still an awesome find! They will be coming soon enough, my friend.

Just when you think you aren't going to find any morels, something pushes you to climb that next hill. And once you get over that hill, guess what you find? That's right. NOTHING!

Its a member of the meripilus complex, I find them this time of the year, they don't stain black, and do smell and taste great, as long as the are young like that one Brian, congrats on the find and enjoy it, mike

I've been accused of the things, I've said
