On one of my best hen trees

Been there for a good month. Hard as bark & smooth on the underside, no teeth///

i know a tree in my local neighborhood that has that stuff on it. dont know what it is though!

There is a tree on the nearby farm's property that had these last year. They were HUGE. This year they are black and woody... sort of look like charred wood. I think I have a picture of it on this site somewhere. The pic was taken last year when it was young.

I looked at the tree 2 weeks ago and it didn't have any new weird conks yet. I'll check it soon. It would be nice to learn what it is. Might have to post it on the Shroomery. They seem to know everything on that forum.

Yea, that's the same one. A month ago they were all white.

I didn't mean you when I said "they" but the collective "they" of the professional mycology world. "They" do say no conk polypore is poisonous.

I bet it doesn't taste as good. Chaga is tasty. I have a quart of brewed Chaga and a quart of turkey tail. TT is yucky but Chaga is good.

I'll do a bit of research on that Inonotus Dryadeus this winter when I've got nothing to do but research and eat and dream about growing things.
