Yeah looks to be an early start. I just hope for the love of the man above that we don't get a big cold front like last year and freeze them off

Hmm..if the weather holds out, I may have to visit my early spots this week to see what's poppin'
I heard an American Toad this evening. (A musical trill, 10-30 seconds long.)

Thunderstorms kept me from checking the woods today. I think my predictions are off, but then again, they were only guesses.
I predicted I'd be harvesting morels by now

I think it should be a good year, with all of the rain we've had. I saw online that the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids is almost as high as it was during the flood in 2013.

One thing for sure, you'll want to use a insect repellent with DEET....I think the mosquitoes will be bad this year. I know they were out biting today when I was walking around in my yard today in Berrien Co.

Re: Spring 2017...Morel Predicitons.

I went scouting today, but didn't find anything in Berrien Co. today.

It's getting close, though. Bloodroot is blooming. Mayapples are starting to sprout.

I've found in the past that when the White Trillium is in bloom, the black morels are at their best. I didn't see any White Trillium sprouting today, but I did see some Painted Trillium.

Apricot trees are blooming in Berrien Co. now, but I haven't seen any Serviceberry trees blooming in the woodland yet this year. A good time to start looking is when the Serviceberry trees are blooming. They are a small tree which gets white flowers in the spring, just as the other trees are starting to get leaves. The flowers have 5 narrow petals, and grow in small clusters.

I'll go out again next week, but don't think I'll find any decent-sized morels until around April 25th.

Re: Spring 2017...Morel Predicitons.

The blacks in SW are starting to get some size to them. Some in the 3-4" range. More and more people are reporting finds in oceana, Kent, Montcalm and gladwin county. I wouldn't be surprised if greys start to be found this weekend in SW Mi.

Re: Spring 2017...Morel Predicitons.

I still haven't found any blacks this year. We need some more rain in SW MI.
On Saturday, I found 12 yellows, 8 I picked, 4 I left behind to grow some more.

Trillium is now coming into bloom in Berrien Co., so I imagine if we get the predicted rain later on this week, another flush of blacks will show up. (I say another because there have been some found here in SW MI by a friend of mine who lives a couple of miles east of me...on the same road I live on!)
