My wife found one black today. We're still newbies so we take EVERY FRIGGIN ONE WE FIND, as they are not many, lol.

I was wondering if just leaving it out in a dry spot was enough to dehydrate it? It's only 1.5" and we FRIGGIN PLAN TO FIND MORE!!!! lol

Some may think I'm crazy, I just think I'm passionate about the things I'm interested in. Right now, morels fall into that category of 'interest.'

If you don't have a dehydrator, just lay them out on newspaper or the like and put a fan on them.
Better yet place on a non-metal screen and put the fan on them. They will dry usually in 24 hours the same as they will in a dehydrator.

Stay away from the oven drying method. I used to do that, but ruined too many.

You didn't ruin them. I'd lay them out and dry them if you don't have a dehydrator. Frank posted a good link with additional info. My dad used to string them, hang them, and dry them that way. Worked great.

The best lessons are those learned before you wish you had known better, especially when thinking edible mushrooms.

Re: preserving mushrooms question

For years I have been doing it this way...
Put what you want to eat for the next week or two in the fridge.
I slice the rest in half and put them on a piece of cardboard. I have afan blow across them overnight. Later the next day I put them in a zip lock bag. I have had them last all year like that.
