I need to check under my spruce trees for Shaggy Parasols. I had some under one tree earlier this year.
It's cooler this year than it was a few years ago when there was a flush of Shaggy Manes under the Douglas Fir trees in the Margaret Upton Arboretum in St. Joseph in November...2006 I believe it was.

Re: More shaggies

Best year I've had for these! Picked more this week. Out of the dozen or so shrooms that we eat these have the strongest mushroom flavor. Killer with a light tempura batter. My last batch is in the dehydrator now & the house smells amazing. Will powder these like hens when done.

You're right Rick. The shaggy Parasols havea very rich mushroom flavor.

A friend of mine makes shaggy pizza with the large open ones.
Just cut the stem off, lay upside down on sprayed sheet pan, and top with your pizza likings. They are pretty good that way. They stand up to the intense flavors well.

Didn't find anymore Shaggy Parasols under my spruce tree(s) after the few I found last summer.
