found today

found these today while driving down road to check soybean field.they were on a live hackberry tree about 10 feet up.they put out yellowish fluid when picked. i believe they are chicken mushroom. how do you cook them? first for me finding these.

Tom, good to see you are expanding beyond the morel, those are chickens, take just the tender tips of the fronds and treat them like ya would any shrooms,mike

Nice find Tom ! Found the other Laetiporus, L. semialbinus the other day. It was just starting to leaf out. I put a little poultry seasoning, Frankenmuth seasoning , and dry Drakes Crispy Fry Mix on them and deep fried them. Tasted kind of like chicken tenders.

Congrats tom.c!

The biggest thing I have learned about harvesting this mushroom is not to get greedy with what you are going to eat. As Miker said, just harvest the tender edges of the shelves. If you try to eat/cook the tougher middle, it will ruin your whole dish.

These are awesome on pizza, and great in a stir fry. Nice find!
